Different Countertop Types to Consider for Your Remodel

There are many different countertop types, and at CCT Natural Stone Designs, we offer some of the very best. Since your countertop is an investment that will continue to serve you for years to come, the decisions surrounding it are extremely important.

The types of countertops you’re drawn to should hinge on your lifestyle and preferred aesthetic. If you have a busy family who spends a lot of time gathering (and making messes) in the kitchen, it’s wise to think of types of countertops materials that aren’t necessarily delicate. If you live in a quiet household and have the inclination to take care of a high-maintenance stone, more sensitive materials might be better suited for you.

Every countertop is different, and we’ve put together a list of our most popular types of countertops so you can get an idea of what it’s like to own them.

Granite

Granite is a hard, scratch-resistant, heat-resistant natural stone. These countertops come in a variety of colors, from light to dark, and are known for their interesting patterns. There are plenty of edge profiles that granite lends itself to, including square, beveled, and ogee.

This countertop doesn’t require very much maintenance. Because it’s a porous material, it needs to be sealed in order to protect it, but you don’t have to go much more in-depth than that.

It’s easy to clean—needing only soap and water—and can last for generations. Granite is a great idea for busy households that value beauty.

Marble

Marble is a natural stone countertop that can elevate your kitchen instantly. There’s nothing quite like its bright, white crispness, and no two marble countertops are exactly alike.

But while marble is beautiful, it’s not for those who aren’t interested in maintenance. It’s a softer stone than granite, which means it requires more care and is more vulnerable to scratches.

It needs to be sealed, and spills should always be cleaned up right away to avoid stains.

Marble is a great countertop for bakers because it stays cool no matter what. It’s a great place to roll out the dough!

Quartz

Unlike marble and granite, quartz is an engineered stone. It’s created with a base of natural quartz and additives called polymers and resins that seal quartz’s pores and qualify this material as nonporous. So it never needs to be sealed!

The resins make quartz countertops a bit more sensitive to heat, though, so always make sure to use your hot pad.

Quartz is how you can get the look of a natural stone countertop without worrying about maintenance. It comes in a wide variety of designs, patterns, and colorations that would suit any kitchen.
