Understanding Our Countertop Stone Types

In most homes, the kitchen is the most important room. For that reason, it only makes sense that it turns out exactly how you imagined it would.

CCT Natural Stone Designs is here to make sure that happens. We have what it takes to make your kitchen exceed your expectations. We want to make sure that the material you choose is something that matches your lifestyle, budget, and vision, which is exactly why we wrote this article.

Let’s get started on the rundown of these countertop stone types.

Marble

If you’re looking for luxury, then marble is the stone for you. This natural stone has been popular for centuries because of its long-lasting durability and standout beauty. It has intricate veining patterns, unique colorations, and a sophisticated flair.

While marble does have the potential to last for generations, it must be taken care of correctly. It’s a porous stone, which means that it must be sealed to prevent damage. Even while it’s sealed, though, marble can be especially sensitive to acids. For that reason, you must be careful with substances like red wine, nail polish remover, and citrus around your countertop.

As long as you have the time and motivation to care for your marble countertop, it will give just as much back to you as you put in.

Quartz

Quartz is a nonporous engineered stone, which means that you don’t ever have to worry about sealing it. Because it’s nonporous, it’s a great choice for the kitchen and bathroom. No pores mean no home for germs and bacteria—and it also means a surface that is super easy to clean!

One thing to be careful about with quartz, though, is heat. Since there are resins present in its composition, it is not as heat resistant as natural stones. Always use a hot pad or a trivet when handling hot items.

Granite

Granite is probably the most well-known natural stone. It comes in all sorts of exciting patterns and designs and is celebrated for its impressive heat resistance and scratch resistance. Like marble, it is a porous stone that requires sealant, but other than that it doesn’t ask for much more.

Granite can last for generations as long as it’s taken care of correctly.

Quartzite

Quartzite is a natural stone countertop that is known for its density. Because it’s so dense and hard, it is very difficult to scratch. It looks a lot like marble, with its unique veining patterns, but has a much higher rate of durability.

Quartzite, like most other natural stones, requires sealant. As long as you maintain it properly, it can make your kitchen shine for years.
